California Requirements for Physician Users of Radiation Producing Equipment
A Radiology Supervisor and Operator Certificate is granted to a licensed physician who is certified by the American Board of Radiology or the American Osteopathic Board of Radiology and has applied to the State of California for and received the certificate. Per Section 107111, a licentiate of the healing arts who is certified by an examining board in radiology recognized by the Department of Health Services shall be granted a certificate to supervise the operation of X-ray machines (i.e. both radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment) and to operate said X-ray machines without restrictions.
A Fluoroscopy Supervisor and Operator Permit is granted to a licensed physician who has applied to the State of California for and received a permit by passing a Department of Health Services approved examination in fluoroscopy radiation protection and safety and the proper use and supervision of use of fluoroscopy and ancillary equipment.
